Foley Grinding Machine to Top Golf Course The Dutch

Website Editor • Jul 09, 2020
The Dutch is located in the Gelderse village of Spijk. The leading golf course in the Netherlands. Loved for its beautiful location, top facilities and unique service. Head Greenkeeper Paul O'Donoghue maintains the golf course to the highest European standards. This requires craftsmanship and good material, such as a Foley Accu-Pro grinding machine. "To keep the grass 'happy and healthy'."

The Dutch was designed by golf professional Colin Montgomerie into a so-called Inland Championship Course. The course has a GEO (Golf Environment Organization) certificate, the international proof of sustainable golf course management. With a team of 12 greenkeepers, Paul O'Donoghue keeps the golf course in top condition. Last year, The Dutch again scored highest on maintenance and facilities. "We do our utmost to improve and innovate every year."

Extremely short
As main greenkeeper, Paul has broad responsibility for a highly skilled team of greenkeepers, budgets for equipment and to keep the quality of the grass 'happy and healthy'. “We cut the greens of The Dutch extremely short,” says Paul. At 2.75mm. This is how we keep a sublime job. We do need a reel mower with razor-sharp blades for that. If the blades are not sharp enough, cut the grass as if you were shaving yourself with a blunt blade. Your skin becomes irritated. It is the same with grass; it literally gets sick. That is why we regularly sharpen the blades to keep the grass healthy and strong. ”

Advanced grinding machine
Knife sharpening is done one to five times a year on most jobs. They don't have a fixed rule on The Dutch. It depends on how the grass reacts and grows. Sometimes that means once a week, sometimes once every two weeks. “That is why we have a grinding machine in house. The previous grinding bench needed to be replaced. The technology was now very outdated. Looking for a replacement we ended up on a Foley grinding machine. Currently the most advanced machine on the market. User-friendly and with a fantastic grinding quality. ”

Paul bought the Foley Accu Pro grinding machine from Milati Grass Machines in Papendrecht. Unfortunately, due to Covid-19, owner Arjen Spek was unable to install, demonstrate and give instructions to the machine himself. But online. “That was sublime. Arjen kept us informed about the delivery from the first contact. When the Foley bench was actually delivered to us, it was constantly on the phone. Arjen explained the operation of the machine in detail to our technician online. Within a day he was able to use the machine completely. We used the bench grinder and the results are fantastic. Moreover, we are ready much faster. I am extremely satisfied with this investment. ” Continue Reading...
